1.  Who should listen to MCOutlook?

Medical directors, pharmacy directors, key managed care decision makers and influencers who want to keep abreast of the ever-changing face of managed care should listen to MCOutlook and participate in the discussion forums. Anyone involved in health care that wants to keep up with industry change should also listen to MCOutlook

2.  What is MCOutlook?

MCOutlook is a series of monthly podcasts created to deliver educational material pertinent to the continually changing managed care environment. By using the podcast format, MCOutlook is able to provide this information in a way that is most convenient for the listener. For more information, see About the Series.

3.  Why should I listen to MCOutlook podcasts?

5.  Where can I listen to MCOutlook podcasts?

In your office, your home, your car. On the train or plane. At the airport, gym or park. You can listen anywhere, as long as you have access to a computer, mobile audio device or phone. Podcasts are the most convenient way to access the information you want, especially if you subscribe and the information is automatically downloaded to your iPod or other mobile device.

A podcast is a method of distributing multimedia files such as MP3s on the Internet for playback on portable digital players such as iPods, MP3 players and personal computers.

7.  What is an MP3?

An MP3 is a digital audio encoding and compression format that significantly reduces the amount of data required to represent audio, yet still sounds like the original uncompressed audio to most listeners. MP3s can be played on a computer or portable music device.

8.  What is RSS?

RSS is an abbreviation for Really Simple Syndication. It is a standardized method of marking or tagging text, audio or video files for Web syndication, so that RSS readers or aggregators can access the information. RSS also stands for Rich Site Summary, and RDF Site Summary.

9.  What is an RSS Reader?

A reader, aggregator or news aggregator is software that retrieves syndicated Web content supplied in the form of a web feed (for example, RSS) that is published by weblogs, podcasts and websites. Simply, it is a program that can read an RSS file, feed or channel. The terms file, feed and channel are used interchangeably.

10.  What equipment do I need to listen to an MCOutlook podcast?

You can listen to a podcast using your computer, an iPod, MP3 player or the telephone.

  • To subscribe and have MCOutlook podcasts automatically delivered to your portable audio or MP3 player as published, see Subscribe Now (links to Subscribe box) on this website. Subscribing is the easiest and most convenient way to make sure you don’t miss a podcast.
  • To listen anytime from the MCOutlook website, select PLAY for a current or archived podcast. This will automatically open the media player on your computer and play the podcast you selected.
  • To listen using your computer at a later time, select DOWNLOAD for a current or archived podcast while on the MCOutlook website. This will download an MP3 file to your computer for play at time that’s convenient for you. When you select the downloaded file on your computer, it will automatically open the media player on your computer to play the podcast.
  • To listen using a portable audio player such as an iPod or MP3 player, select DOWNLOAD for a current or archived podcast while on the MCOutlook website. Save the file to your portable audio player or MP3 player to listen to at your convenience.

11.  What do I need to subscribe to MCOutlook or any podcast?

You need a podcatcher, podcast software or podcast client such as:

  • iTunes
  • Juice
  • iPodder
  • Or any of dozens oof other software applications that allow you to subscribe to and manage podcasts

Today many websites, including Google and Yahoo! offer RSS reader, so you can subscribe even if you don't have a portable audio device. Once you subscribe, the podcast client will automatically check for new podcasts and download them when they are available.

12.  What is a blog?

A blog, shortened from weblog, is a website where regular entries are made, usually in a journal format. Blogs offer commentary, opinions or news on a particular subject, such as news, sports, hobbies, food, politics and managed care. A blog may combine text, images and links to other blogs, web pages and other media related to its topic. Many blogs produce RSS feeds.
